West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been released from the hospital after suffering a broken leg in a car accident. The 31-year-old was involved in a horror crash that left his car severely damaged.
According to reports, Antonio had to be airlifted to the hospital from Epping Forest on December 7th after being involved in a crash while driving his Ferrari during Storm Darragh. He was traveling quite a distance from the club’s Rush Green training ground at the time of the accident.
The surgery was done the same day and the player is currently recovering. However, it is unlikely that he will be able to return to the field for the remainder of the season. Additionally, Antonio’s contract with the team will expire in June, leaving his future with the team uncertain.
The Premier League giants have raised close to £60,000 for the NHS and Air Ambulance UK charities by auctioning off the match-worn shirts worn in honour of Antonio ahead of the first game following the crash.
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen expressed his gratitude towards the initiative saying “It’s been special to see the West Ham family and the wider football community come together in support of Mic,”
“We are all grateful for the care that both the NHS and Air Ambulances UK have given to Mic during a challenging time. I want to thank everyone for helping us to raise an incredible amount of money for two great causes.” He added.
