Kumasi Asante Kotoko have booked their place in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Nigeria’s Kwara United 1-0 in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Having edged the Nigerians in a thrilling 4-3 victory in the first leg in Accra, the Porcupine Warriors went on to defeat Kwara United 0-1 in the reverse encounter in their own backyard. Kotoko produced a stunning performance away from home to secure the needed result that ensured their journey in the competition continues.

Forward Hubert Gyau fired home the decisive winner to complete a 5-3 aggregate win for the Ghanaians. The victory means Karim Zito’s side will now face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the next round of competition.

Kwara United were compelled to move the game away from their preferred Ilorin Sports Stadium due to ongoing renovations to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and as a result the hosts were forced to open the gates free of charge to rally support but their frantic efforts failed to yield any positive impact on the game.

The victory means head coach Karim Zito has extended his impressive away record (eight games unbeaten on the road) in the CAF Confederation Cup.
